    CYENS – CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

    The Nicosia Municipal Market building was designed in 1965 by architect Stavros Oikonomou and is located within the walled city of Nicosia. The building was originally conceived for dual use, functioning both as a municipal market and as offices for the Municipality of Nicosia. It is considered one of the most significant buildings of the 1960s and a representative example of mature modernism, and has been officially designated as a listed building. Its extension and renovation into the CYENS Centre of Excellence were carried out by architect Giorgos Tsanggarides. Architecturally, the project combines traditional elements with contemporary interventions, creating a high-tech environment. Functionally, it operates as a research and innovation hub in digital technologies, offering collaborative workspaces, laboratories, and interactive experiences.

  • THE HOLY CHURCH OF FANEROMENI

    THE HOLY CHURCH OF FANEROMENI

    The Holy Church of Phaneromeni is situated in the historical centre of Nicosia and is the largest Orthodox Church in the old part of Nicosia, where lies within the Venetian walls. At the site where the church is situated there was in the medieval times an orthodox nunnery and the nuns were silk weavers. The church is a three-aisled basilica with a dome featuring a lantern, incorporating elements of Western architecture. Surrounding the church are finely crafted rainwater spouts, made by Cypriot stone carvers.

    GYM-MA

    The gym is located on Ektoros Street, in a space that was formerly operated as a barbershop. In 2025, it was transformed into a contemporary fitness space by Ierides Architecture, while preserving its exterior appearance. The original open-plan area was redesigned with the addition of a metal staircase and a mezzanine with a glass extension, allowing natural light to penetrate the space. The lighting highlights the equipment, while the soft color palette emphasizes the wooden elements, creating a distinctive environment, a true “temple of fitness.”

    ATELIER “THEKLA”

    On Andrea Louka Street, in the Faneromeni area, a contemporary studio / architectural office is housed within a space rich in history. Previously, it was used for the crafting of women’s handbags by an artisan of Armenian origin, while the surrounding block once hosted the “Lukudi” Cinema. In 2022, the space was redesigned by Ierides Architecture with a focus on energy efficiency and the creation of a flexible, multifunctional environment. Featuring metal structures, glass extensions, and modern materials, the interior transforms from day to night, accommodating exhibitions, presentations, and small-scale events, an expressive space full of character, inspiration, and vibrancy.

    Α+ MULTIPURPOSE EVENT SPACE & ARCHTUBE OFFICES

    The A+ Event Space and Archtube offices are housed within a repurposed industrial shell in the walled city of Nicosia, creatively bridging past and contemporary design. The intervention by Economou Architects preserves the building’s industrial character while introducing a flexible open-plan environment adaptable to multiple uses. Through light, technology, and spatial fluidity, the project operates as a dynamic hub for culture, work, and experience.

    STUDENT RESIDENCES OF THE HOLY ARCHBISHOPRIC OF CYPRUS

    The Student Residences οf the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus in the walled city of Nicosia represent a contemporary intervention of adaptive reuse and extension of a listed building, designed by Polina Antoniadou & Associates. The project combines the restoration of the historic structure with a new addition, forming a cohesive composition that balances old and new. Emphasizing natural materials, light, and the courtyard as a social space, the design creates a contemporary living environment integrated into the historic urban fabric.

    TΗΕ SEVERIOS LIBRARY

    The Severios Library, designed by the architect Polyvios Michaelides, located within the historic complex of the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia, stands as one of Cyprus’ most significant intellectual landmarks. Inaugurated in 1949, the building reflects the functional and restrained architectural language of 20th-century educational spaces, emphasizing natural light and study. Housing rare collections and archival material, it maintains a strong connection between education, history, and cultural heritage.

    Hamam Omerye is located in the old city of Nicosia, near important historical landmarks. It is a 16th-century Ottoman bath that preserves its domes, arches, and original materials, creating a unique atmospheric setting.It still operates as a wellness space, offering a distinctive experience that combines history and relaxation.

    YFANTOURGEIO THE WORKPLACE

    The Yfantourgeio Workplace is located on Lefkonos Street and is one of the most distinctive creative hubs in Nicosia, blending coworking, culture, and community into a single dynamic space. Originally a textile factory, it has been transformed into an open, industrial-style environment where creativity thrives. The space is designed to feel both functional and inspiring, with shared work areas, artistic installations, and relaxed corners that invite both focus and informal interaction.

  • NICOSIA MUNICIPAL ARTS CENTRE (NiMAC)

    NICOSIA MUNICIPAL ARTS CENTRE (NiMAC)

    The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, in collaboration with the Pierides Foundation (NiMAC), was inaugurated on 14 January 1994 and is housed in the historic Old Powerhouse building, which was granted to the Municipality of Nicosia by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus. The building is a characteristic example of early 20th-century industrial architecture and has been restored with respect to its original form. Its restoration was awarded the Europa Nostra Award in 1994, recognising the value of preserving and reusing industrial heritage.
